On 14 October, the Czech Air Force JAS-39 Gripen fighters underwent a certification qualifying them to officially conduct air surveillance and interception missions over Iceland on behalf of NATO. After training and orientation flights in the Icelandic airspace on 13 October, the pilots from Caslav Air Base in central Bohemia currenty deployed to Keflavik airport, Iceland, underwent this certificationthat was conducted by NATO's Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) at Uedem, Germany.

On 6 October 2014, French Lieutenant General Dominique de Longvilliers, Deputy Commander of Allied Air Command at Ramstein, Germany, met NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at Lask Air Force Base, Poland, together with Polish military and civilian representatives and Allied pilots executing NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission.

The Czech Air Force will deploy five of its JAS-39 Gripen fighter aircraft and a total of 80 aircrews and ground personnel to Iceland for the last quarter of 2014. On Monday, 6 October, the main body of the Czech contingent will depart from 21st Tactical Air Force Base Čáslav.

The Baltic Region Training Event 19 (BRTE 19) focused on training interoperability and cooperation between NATO and Partnership for Peace (PfP). On 30 September and 1 October, ten aircraft from five NATO nations trained together with a total of six fighters from PfP members Finland and Sweden on how to cooperate in different aerial scenarios.
