Brigadier General David Morpurgo is Deputy Commander of the Deployable Air Command and Control Centre (DACCC) in Poggio Renatico,
Italy.
Born in Naples in November 1972, he attended the Air Force Academy from 1991 to 1995, as a member of the "Nibbio IV" course.
In 1996 he obtained his Military Pilot Wings on T-37 and T-38, in Sheppard AFB, Texas.
He was assigned to 132nd Fighter Bomber Recognition Squadron within 3rd Wing in Villafranca (VR); in May 1997, the squadron was moved to 51st Wing in Istrana In July 1999, where he served as Executive Officer of the squadron. In 2007, he was posted to 32ndWing in Amendola (FG) where, between September 2008 and August 2010, he served as 101st Squadron Commander. Between May and July 2010, he was assigned as "Black Cats Task Group" Commander in Herat, Afghanistan.
In September 2010, he attended the Joint War College in Rome and was subsequently assigned to the Air Force Staff 1st Department (Organisation and Personnel), where he served as Chief of 1st Section (Organisational studies) and then, after being promoted Colonel in July 2014, as Chief of 1st Office (Organisation).
Between July and December 2015, he was appointed as Italian Senior National Representative for operations in Iraq at the Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) in al-Udeid, Qatar) and, subsequently, from June 2016 to July 2018 he served as commander 51st Wing in Istrana.
From August 2018, he was in the International Relations Office of the 3rd Department of the Italian Defence General Staff, initially as Deputy, and, subsequently, from August 2019 on, as Head of the Office.
Brigadier General Morpurgo was promoted to his present rank in January 2021.
He attended various professional courses, including the Staff College basic and advanced courses in Florence, Flight Safety Course, Electronic Warfare basic and advanced courses and various management courses.
He has received the following awards and decorations: Gold Medal for Air Service, Gold Distinguished Flying Medal, Gold Fighter Medal, Silver Medal for Command, NATO Medal for Kosovo, NATO Medal for the former Yugoslavia, NATO Medal for Afghanistan.
He has accumulated almost 3000 flight hours on the following aircraft types: SF260, T37, T38, AM-X, MB 339A.
Brigadier General Morpurgo holds a Postgraduate Degree in Aeronautical Sciences and one in Political Science, Master Degrees in International Military Strategic Studies and Geopolitics economic globalisation and international institutions, and an Executive Master in Strategic Leadership & Digital Transformation. He has one son, Luca.
