Warrant Officer Simon Waldock

Warrant Officer Simon Waldock, Royal Air Force (RAF) is currently Command Senior Enlisted Advisor to 4* US General at NATO’s Headquarters Allied Air Command at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

He was born on 29th July 1974 in Northumberland. He studied Industrial Design at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle and graduated with a BA (Hons) in 1999 before joining the RAF as an intelligence Analyst (IA) in July 2000. Over his career he has served in a variety of Joint Defence roles and operational intelligence specialisations both in the UK and Overseas. He has deployed extensively over his career, including Turkey, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and a number of tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He is a qualified Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO) and Targeteer. He is also a Mental Health ambassador and is passionate about Mental Health. He is committed to enlisted development and the continued empowerment of people.

After completing Phase 1 and Phase 2 training as an IA he was posted to 41 (F) Squadron, RAF Coltishall in support of the Jaguar Force. He deployed to Incirlik Airbase, Turkey on numerous occasions between 2001-2003 in support of OP RESINATE (North) before deploying to Al Jaber Airbase, Kuwait with the Harrier Force in support of OP TELIC in 2003.

In September 2003 he was posted to Joint Air Reconnaissance Intelligence Centre (JARIC), RAF Brampton before deploying as J2 lead, Weapons Intelligence Section (WIS), Basra, Iraq in 2004 in support of OP TELIC.  On his return to JARIC, he worked within the Counter Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) section supporting current operations in both Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2008, he was awarded the Medmenham Trophy for his work within the field of intelligence, specifically his contribution to C-IED.   

In September 2009 and was posted to Joint Force Logistics Component (JFLog C) HQ, Permanent Joint Head Quarters (PJHQ), Northwood HQ as Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) J2. He deployed to the Falkland Islands in conjunction with the BFSAI review and also deployed to OP HERRICK as Task Force Helmand J2 desk head at HQ Regional Command (Southwest). In September 2012 he was posted to RAF Spadeadam as Station Intelligence Officer and EWO. He deployed to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as UK J2 LO in support of OP CROSSWAY in May 2015. He was then posted to Storm Shadow Mission Planning Facility (SSCMPF), Northwood HQ in 2016 supporting UK current targeting operations. In 2019 he deployed to Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC), Al Udeid Airbase, Qatar as SNCO A2 and Targets. He was responsible for the selection of UK targets and worked closely with NATO partners in the identification of suitable coalition targets. 

In January 2020 he was posted to the Cyber Safeguarding and Awareness (CSA) Flight (Flt), 591 Signal Unit (SU), RAF Digby. He led a specialist team of IAs in support of high-profile UK Cyber tasking in support of Op RESCRIPT. The team provided critical COVID-19 Disinformation and Misinformation (DISMIS) analysis for use by both the Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) and Rapid Response Unit (RRU) during a National crisis.  The team also produced online digital footprints for key Air, Cabinet Office, Home Office & SAGE personnel.  The team he led received a 1* commendation for DISMIS support to COVID-19 tasking. In 2020 he also received a 2* team commendation for support to the Virtual Royal International Air Tattoo. In April 2021 he was posted to J2, PJHQ and supported current operations in both EUROPE and ASIA. 

He has a home in Northumberland. He is married to Louise with one child, Joseph aged 15. Interests include Football, Cycling, Golf, better cooking and he has a passion for Newcastle United Football Club. He is an active member of the RAF Football Association (FA) inclusivity advisory group. He is a qualified UEFA B football coach and is the RAF FA Lead for the development of Ladies Football. He is an active member of the RAF Cycling Association (RAFCA) and has represented the RAFCA in endurance races including the London Edinburgh London ride and the Ride Across Britain ride. Both events in support of Mental Health charities.
