Ramstein - In the early afternoon, at the Ramstein Air Base passenger terminal, the HQ AIRCOM
Chief of Staff, Major General Erich Siegmann, bade farewell to some 90
staff members who deployed to northern Italy
to participate in AIRCOM’s exercise Ramstein Ambition I 2016 (RAAN I
16).
For the first time this initial preparation exercise for the HQ
staff will be held at the facilities of the Italian Joint Force Air Component (JFAC), home also to NATO’s Deployable Air Command and Control Centre
(DACCC), at Poggio Renatico, Italy.
Around 200 staff
from the Headquarters and the two Combined Air Operations Centres
(CAOCs) at Torrejon, Spain, and Uedem, Germany, are going to join 60
staff from the DACCC to execute the command post exercise RAAN I 16 from
20 to 29 June 2016.
The RAAN
series is normally held at the headquarters of AIRCOM at Ramstein Air
Base. Due to presently ongoing construction work inside the headquarters
facilities at Ramstein, the facilities of the Italian JFAC have been chosen as a venue.
RAAN I
16 is a command post exercise planned and executed under the auspices
of HQ AIRCOM. It is designed to transfer corporate knowledge from soon
to be departing
members to exercise AIRCOM operational air command and control
specialists. These skill are needed to maintain full functionality of
the NATO Command Structure Joint Force Air Component / Air Operations
Centre organization required to provide air command and
control for Allied air forces in a joint operation. The exercise play
is designed around a Peace Support Operation scenario and will be based
on a simulated contemporary hybrid war scenario.
