“Real-life support – enabling exercise participants to execute their jobs”

KALLAX, Sweden – MSgt Romain is responsible for ensuring real-life support for the 15-strong NATO Air Detachment at Kallax Air Base during exercise Trident Juncture 18.

"Specifically my task is to make sure that all Allied Air Command exercise participants at Kallax have the administrative and logistical support necessary to go about their daily business of planning and executing flying operations in connection with this large-scale flying exercise,” he says.

"I am a "jack-of-all-trades” and no two days are the same as I am never certain what the challenge of the day will be,” adds the French non-commissioned officer who has to deal with everything that his colleagues need at Kallax from accommodation and food to office stationery and rental cars.

Part of his daily routine is the NATO-Swedish Host Nation meeting where the programme and needs for the day are discussed with the Swedish representatives and the flying units.

MSgt Romain’s task commenced months ago back at the headquarters in Ramstein. He and his team captured the real-life support requirements for the exercise, planning and coordinating in detail how to execute the support tasks across the various locations that Allied Air Command personnel would work from in Norway, Sweden and Finland.

"I am actually quite pleased that the plan has worked out and my colleagues are happy,” he says, and commends his Swedish Air Force colleagues for the outstanding cooperation. "However, now I am already thinking about winding up and making sure everybody gets home safely when the exercise wraps up,” he adds.
