NATO Air Chiefs convene at Ramstein for semi-annual strategic meeting

RAMSTEIN, Germany – NATO Air Chiefs, General Officers and Senior Enlisted Leaders from Allied Air Forces and enhanced Partner countries convened for the first NATO Air Chiefs’ Symposium of 2020, chaired by the Commander of Allied Air Command, General Jeffrey Harrigian. 

This is a semi-annual forum held by Allied Air Command to discuss Joint and Air domain issues as well as exploring the new challenges and opportunities surrounding the space domain and fifth generation aircraft integration.

Let me welcome all the Air Chiefs and Senior Enlisted Leaders and thank you for making your way here.

In his opening remarks, General Harrigian welcomed the Air Chiefs and their accompanying Senior Enlisted Leaders and presented his perspectives on the key issues confronting the NATO Alliance.

"Let me welcome all the Air Chiefs and Senior Enlisted Leaders and thank you for making your way here” General Harrigian said. “Our last meeting in 2019 concluded with several specific actionable items that we decided to focus on further in this meeting – Vigilance, Strategic Communication, Air Command and Control, Exercise Improvements and Alliance Ground Surveillance Integration” he added.

The Commander of Allied Air Command hosts gatherings of NATO Air Chiefs twice a year with this Symposium focused primarily on the current security context. Additionally Allied Air Command’s subject matter experts brief on the Integrated Air and Missile Defence, the Ballistic Missile Defence Strategic Plans and other topics from exercises to readiness.

This year’s first symposium focused primarily on lessons identified from 2019, leveraging air and space capabilities and the integration of new assets and technologies with existing infrastructure and capabilities. Given the current global health situation, participants were requested to be mindful of common measures against possible contagion, in order to minimize risks.
