Ramstein, Germany – Today, April 15, Allied Air Command welcomed Rear Admiral Andrew Betton for the inaugural Joint Force Command (JFC) Norfolk visit to discuss command and control construct, future exercise scenarios, and the deterrence and defence of the Euro-Atlantic area operationalization.

Allied Command Operations and the subordinate Air, Land, and Maritime commands play crucial roles in the deterrence and defence in the Euro-Atlantic area. JFC Norfolk was established to meet the defensive needs in the Atlantic and High North sea areas. It is the newest command in the Alliance and enhances comprehensive transatlantic defence.

“Clear lines of command and control in the air domain are a critical part of any Alliance effort within the North Atlantic and High North,” emphasized Rear Admiral Andrew Betton, Deputy Commander of Joint Force Command Norfolk, “JFC Norfolk is a key platform for strengthening Alliance cohesion and synchronizing national and Allied efforts across this region. Air Command is also hard at work on this and we want to continue our close coordination as part of our mission to maintain peacetime vigilance across the Atlantic.”

Betton also visited the NATO Space Centre located within Allied Air Command. The Space Centre creates a centralized hub for Allied Space components to effectively communicate across the Alliance.

“JFC Norfolk plays a vital role in our vigilant 24/7 defence of the critical Atlantic and High North sea areas”, underlined Lieutenant General Pascal Delerce, Deputy Commander Allied Air Command. “Sharing the situational awareness between the commands ensures NATO receives early warnings and indicators to safeguard Allied territory in the high North and across the Euro-Atlantic area.”
