Royal Air Force Typhoon arrive in Romania for pre-planned Air Policing mission

RAMSTEIN, Germany - Royal Air Force Typhoon jets have arrived in Romania to begin the UK's pre-planned NATO Policing mission in the evening of April 22, 2021.

Four Typhoons flew into Mihail Kogălniceanu air base on the Black Sea coast near Constanta, Romania, from RAF Lossiemouth in the north of the United Kingdom. In Romania, they will carry out NATO's enhanced Air Policing (eAP) mission for this summer's deployment. The mission will be conducted alongside Romanian Air Force fighters and demonstrates Alliance cohesion and interoperability integrated into the Alliance's collective air defence system.

We have returned to Romania to reassure our allies that the UK is fully committed to working alongside our NATO Allies to secure the Alliance's skies.

"This pre-planned deployment is the latest RAF contribution to NATO Air Policing. We have returned to Romania to reassure our allies that the UK is fully committed to working alongside our NATO Allies to secure the Alliance's skies," said Wing Commander Lamping, Commanding Officer of the Typhoon detachment. "The mission in the Black Sea region is very similar to UK Quick Reaction Alert, so the pilots and supporting personnel are experienced operators when it comes to delivering NATO Air Policing. Despite the difficult circumstances caused by COVID-19 we are well prepared and ready to deliver the mission," he added.
