Shaping Capability through Training - The Gateway to NISRF Excellence

SIGONELLA, Italy - The NATO Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Force (NISRF), headquartered in Sigonella, Italy, is composed of three core functional elements: the NISRF Operations Wing, the NISRF Support Wing, and the NISRF Training Center. Each plays a critical role in ensuring the Force’s operational effectiveness – and the Training Center is essential to preparing every NISRF member to perform their duties at the highest professional standard.

In a multinational environment like NISRF, training is more than a necessity: it is a strategic enabler. The Training Center lies at the heart of the Force’s efforts to educate, develop and standardize. It is where skills are sharpened, knowledge is deepened, and shared procedures are established.

New NISRF members start their theoretical training as soon as they arrive.
Followed by the respective practical training.

NISRF’s greatest strength lies in its diversity: men and women from many NATO nations, with varied professional backgrounds, work together closely. To harness this potential effectively, there must be a shared understanding of operational procedures, workflows and standards – and that is precisely the focus of the Training Center. The center is staffed by a highly professional multinational training team that brings extensive operational experience directly into the classroom.

One key aspect of the program is the use of cutting-edge technologies, including e-learning training and virtual reality (VR) systems, which provide immersive, simulation-based learning environments. This enables more realistic and operationally relevant training for all participants.

Our goal is to ensure the highest level of professionalism, efficiency, and mission readiness – in service of the mission and the Alliance.

Colonel Matteo Molari, Deputy Commander and Commander of the Training Center, states: “Our training programs are aligned with NATO-wide standards and specifically designed to enhance the operational capability of the entire Force. From system operators to technical specialists to mission leadership, every NISRF role benefits from structured, hands-on, and high-quality instruction.” He adds, “Our goal is to ensure the highest level of professionalism, efficiency, and mission readiness, in service of the mission and the Alliance.”

Training is conducted by experienced Training Center instructors, who are supported by subject-matter experts from the other elements of NISRF – the Operations Wing and the Support Wing – as well as from partner industry representatives.

Colonel Molari further emphasizes that training is not a one-time activity, but a continuous process. “The Training Center is not simply a place of instruction, but an integral part of the Force – a hub for development, cooperation and innovation.”

Our strength lies in our knowledge – and our knowledge is built on continuous training.

State-of-the-art technologies are used in the training program to provide participants with the best possible learning conditions.
Training is conducted by experienced Training Center instructors.
Training is also conducted by representatives of the partner industry.
