Air Command and Control

Excellence in Air Command and Control is vital to bring NATO’s Airpower to its full effect. Proper planning, tasking, communication and assessment are necessary to coordinate and synergize the broad strategic, operational and tactical potential of Air Power, enabling the full delivery of the required military effect.

Air Command and Control is provided for Air Policing during peacetime as well as for Air Defence during crisis or a collective defence scenario. For NATO’s Air Policing mission Air Command and Control is provided by two Combined Air Operations Centres, at Uedem, Germany and Torrejón, Spain respectively, subordinate to Allied Air Command. In case of crisis or conflict Allied Air Command is prepared to stand up a Joint Force Air Component – a command and control centre that plans and executes the delivery of NATO Air Power across the entire spectrum of joint operations.
